Support graduate students’ training and education in the Center for Bioethics by providing funds for fellowships. Fellowships help the Center attract top students from around the world to pursue their Bioethics education at the University of Minnesota.
The mission of the Center is to advance understanding concerning ethical issues in biomedical research, health care and the life sciences, with a focus on the rights and interests of patients, research participants, and the public. The Center carries out this mission by conducting original interdisciplinary research and scholarship, offering educational programs and courses, fostering public discussion and debate, and assisting in the formulation of public policy. Your contributions help the Center to be a world leader in bioethics in order to promote ethical and socially responsible research and practice in the health and life sciences.
The Maas Family Endowed Chair in Bioethics honors and provides support for a distinguished member of the Center’s faculty. Dr. Steven Miles currently holds this endowed chair. His work has led to significant improvements in health care insurance, end of life care, the use of restraints in nursing homes, refugee camp medicine, and prison medical ethics. Dr. Miles’ current work focuses on seeking out physicians around the world who assist in torture and seeing that they are held accountable. Your contribution helps support a permanent source of funding for the Maas Family Endowed Chair in Bioethics, so that the Center can robustly honor and support the work of its distinguished faculty members now and into the future.
